Quit Dancehall and do ‘Borboorbor’ to promote your identity and Volta region” – Gyedu Ambolley instructs Stonebwoy

disputably, Highlife music, “Borboorbor”, Adowa, others are the heartbeat of Ghana music. Simply put, Ghanaians gave birth to the above-mentioned genres.

Therefore, there’s the need for our musicians to put strategic measures in place to protect and develop rapidly the indigenous music genres. But someway somehow, the contemporary musicians have failed to do so.

As a result, it’s no surprise that Gyedu-Blay Ambolley, a renowned Ghanaian artiste and self-proclaimed originator of Hiplife, has expressed worry about the degenerating nature of Ghana’s indigenous music.

According to Gyedu-Blay Ambolley in a recent interview with blogger Attractive Mustapha, it’s high time artiste like Stonebwoy considered dumping the so called Dancehall music he’s doing and channel his energy into the promotion of “Borboorbor”.

To the best knowledge of Ambolley, “Borboorbor” originates from Volta region, therefore, Stonebwoy doing such songs will help sell his identity and culture to the world comparably to the shoddy Dancehall music he’s interested in.

Gyedu-Blay Ambolley cited the fact that Sean Paul spoke “Patoa”, which is identified with his home country Jamaica when he featured Stonebwoy on his “Most Original” hit song and bemoaned the fact that Stonebwoy didn’t speak any Ghanaian language to also promote Ghana.
